exploring our new home

We arrived in Bozeman around lunchtime on Wednesday, September 14.  The two of us unpacked the whole truck (three dressers, bed, mattress, couch, chair and ottoman, kitchen table and lots and lots of boxes).  Needless to say were were exhausted!  We spent the first few days unpacking, running back and forth to Target and Walmart for little things we needed for our new home.  We had such a fun time deciding where everything should go (you know Adam has an opinion on just about everything :), he always wants to be involved) and arranging our first place together.  On our first sunday in Bozeman we decided to stop unpacking and go on our first of many adventures, exploring our new home.  We started driving just looking for beautiful scenery and began to discovered how blessed we are to have the opportunity to live in an area surrounded by such magnificent mountains.
These pictures were taken about 10 minutes away from our apartment on top of a hill.  We had to trespass to get here, but we wanted to be high enough to try and see the town.  The mountains in the background are the Bridger Mountains.  Right below the mountains is the town of Bozeman.

We kept driving toward the Gallatin National Forest.  This is about 20 minutes from our apartment.  We heard there was a lake in the mountains and we knew we had to go in search of it.  This is Hylite Canyon and the Hylite Reservoir.  You can drive right up to it and enjoy a picnic at the picnic tables, fish, sail, or skip rocks, like Adam.  This has become one of my favorite places to come.  It is just so peaceful and I always feel happiness in my heart while we are here.

HAPPY 26TH BIRTHDAY, ADAM!  This was taken the night of Adam's birthday as we headed out to dinner, but the sunset was just so beautiful we had to stop and take a picture.  I know it didn't really turn out, but I kind of like that you can just see our silhouettes.
The day after Adam's birthday we headed out to Yellowstone!

It was so hot!  It was way warmer this day in the park than it was in Tennessee.  What?!  We thought we were moving to a colder part of the world?!
Yes, those are patches of snow on top of the mountains!

This is called the Golden Gate Bridge, because of the "yellow-looking" volcanic rock of the mountain.  Originally, it was a wooden structure that horses pulling wagons used to pass.  NO THANK YOU!  You literally feel like you are hanging off the side of a cliff when you drive on this bridge!
This is on the other side of the bridge.  Very comforting!

Mammoth Hot Springs

It was so hot even wild man didn't want to touch it!

I think this place was created for the benefit and enjoyment of Adam Groves :)
Driving back from Yellowstone we stopped by a river so Adam could try and catch his first fish in Montana.
I sat and watched and experimented with our new camera.  All these pictures have been taken with it.  We were blessed enough to received it as a wedding gift from Trent :).  It was the perfect gift!
ADAM'S FIRST FISH!!

The scrumptious breakfast my honey made for me before we embarked on our first hike.  At this point I had no idea what kind of a hike I was about to get suckered into!!  There were no signs at the bottom telling us how many miles it would be.  We started at the trailhead at 10:30 and arrived back at our car at 7:15 that night.  That should tell you how long of a hike it was...needless to say I was exhausted!!!
This lake was about 1/3 of our way up.  We were going to be climbing up to that peak you can see in the distance with SNOW on it!!

If you look closely you can see white mountain goats about half way up that cliff.

We made it!!!
We could see forever.  It is an indescribable feeling to be on top of a mountain like this.

I had to post this because my legs have never looked like this.  I think they were telling me, "What did you just make us do!"
Thank you Adam for pushing me to do things I never think I can.  I love my mountain man :)

our journey begins

I finally finished packing my things and loaded down my car the afternoon of September 11.  I can remember being up in my room packing, then running downstairs to drop off another load, while stopping to join my mom, brother and camille on the couch to watch the dedication of the new memorial at ground zero.  As all of you probably know, it was very hard for me to leave my family and head out west, not having the slightest idea what to expect, but leaving on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 somehow made it even worse.  Finally, I gathered to courage to say my goodbyes, honk the horn as I headed down the hill and turn right toward my future.  With tears in my eyes I turned on the radio only to find every station playing songs that made me cry even more.  Then I flipped to NPR, a station I have listened to with my dad on our many trips to starbucks.  In a way it made me feel at home.  I began listening to personal stories from September 11 and began realizing I have no reason to be sad.  I was about to experience the trip of a lifetime that few people get the opportunity to take.  Tears began to dry up and I arrived at the farm to be greeted by my best friend and new family, but Harley Bear jumping all over me made me happiest of all. So our journey through pictures begins...
Harley Bear was a lot of help

We were very sad to leave her again.  Someday soon the three of us will be a family again.

Packed down and ready to go.  We already will need a bigger truck when we move back!

I miss her :(

Not so much!  Extremely loud also!  Adam and I basically spend two whole days riding in silence because we couldn't hear each other when we tried to talk.  The first of many new memories.

The morning our trip began

It took longer than 25 hours...more like 30!

Welcome to St. Louis!

This is for you Emma :)

lots and lots and lots of fields

I29 was CLOSED through Missouri.  We had to take 3 different detours.

Fields of sunflowers, BEAUTIFUL

Adam stayed here on New Year's Eve and was handed a shovel to move the snow away from his door in order to get into his room.

Lots of money down the drain :(
